2013 Alexandria Nicole Quarry Butte Destiny Ridge Vineyards Estate Grown Horse Heaven Hills Red Wine; 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec, 4% Syrah, 2% Petit Verdot ~$26
This was my favorite of the night but to be fair I knew it would be. My experience with Alexandria Nicole wines usually ranges from like to love. The vineyard sits high on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River. The team wished to capture the beauty of that site in this bottle and I think they succeeded. I thought this would be the most expensive bottle of the night and was shocked by the price. Why don’t I have a case of this?
Our group’s descriptors included complex, herbaceous, viscous, velvety, mouth coating, integrated tannin, terrific balance, and a long finish that doesn’t disappoint – even with all of that build up. Expect dark fruits – black cherry, ripe blackberry, plus violets, and just enough green peppery notes to keep things interesting.
